The comment from Biden to CNN is a major setback for Israel’s war. The US is by far Israel’s most important and most powerful ally, and without its support, Israel’s firepower and ambitions in Gaza would be weakened. Despite mounting international pressure, the Biden administration has stood firmly with Israel, delivering weapons and other forms of support. Biden comments have sparked significant anger among some Israeli politicians. Other top Israeli officials also criticized Ben Gvir.

Gaza's ruling group can keep fighting and is prepared for a long war in Rafah and Gaza, said the official, who requested anonymity. A senior regional security official said Israel believed some Hamas commanders and hostages were in Rafah. UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron also told lawmakers that Britain and its allies "will look at the issue of recognising a Palestinian state, including at the United Nations". Yet for Netanyahu and many other Israeli officials, talk of a two-state solution amounts to a betrayal of the people killed on Oct. 7. "I say clearly to anyone still stuck in October 6: We will never lend a hand to the creation of a Palestinian state," Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar said on social media last month.

They have yet to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they currently rest on the ocean floor of the American League East, like a wreck, full of eels. Wednesday’s win over Washington snapped a streak of nine straight defeats, their worst losing streak since Reagan’s first term. They went right back to losing on Thursday. Depending on how you feel about the Yankees, this news is either terribly sad or quite funny.

JERUSALEM, July 20 (Reuters) - The Israeli military may arrest reservists who have pledged not to report for duty as part of protests at the government's judicial overhaul plans, Army Radio reported on Thursday after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded a crackdown. But Army Radio, a popular Israeli broadcaster managed by the Defence Ministry, said "a few hundred" reservists had announced they would refuse call-ups. Most of these are from the air force, Army Radio said. Sanctions being considered include arrest, suspension and dismissal, Army Radio said - but noted that, because air force reservists are designated as volunteers, they may be treated differently to reservists whose call-ups are obligatory. According to military data published by Globes newspaper in March, 4% of Israelis aged 22 to 45 are called up as reservists.

REUTERS/Nir EliasJERUSALEM, July 19 (Reuters) - The Israeli government could rethink its polarising drive to overhaul the judiciary if there is a major escalation in protests, a cabinet minister said on Wednesday, in a signal of pliability as Washington tries to close ranks with its ally. Netanyahu confidant Culture Minister Miki Zohar offered rare acknowledgement of the impact of six-month-old demonstrations, which surged in March after the premier fired Israel's defence minister for openly voicing worry at the impact on the military. He declared those fruitless last month, and revived the bill limiting Supreme Court powers to void some government decisions. Proponents of the change pursued by Netanyahu's religious-nationalist coalition say the Supreme Court has become too interventionist and that the change will facilitate effective governance.

Modern life has clogged my skull to the limit. Technology has delivered an avalanche of options to preoccupy me at any hour; the notion of idle time that can’t be filled with some form of digital distraction is foreign to me, almost unnerving.
[1/6] Israelis protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's new right-wing coalition and its proposed judicial reforms to reduce powers of the Supreme Court in a main square in Tel Aviv, Israel January 14, 2023. Among those opposed are the Supreme Court chief justice and the country's attorney-general. Channel 13 TV last week found 53% of Israelis were opposed to changing the court appointments' structure while 35% were in support. Critics of the Supreme Court say it is overreaching and unrepresentative of the electorate. "We promised the people change, we promised governance, we promised reforms - and we will make good on that."
JERUSALEM, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu's efforts to swiftly form a government faltered on Sunday as a prospective far-right coalition partner demanded the cabinet role of defence minister. But fissures have emerged between Likud and the powerful Religious Zionism party whose hard-line settler leaders oppose Palestinian statehood and want the occupied West Bank annexed - views in direct opposition to successive U.S. administrations. I hope this will be worked out soon," Likud lawmaker Miki Zohar told Kan radio, adding that defence was "the most important portfolio" for Likud. Even the finance role would present problems for Netanyahu, who had said before the election that Likud would keep the big three portfolios: defence, finance and foreign affairs. Whichever portfolio Religious Zionism lands, the incoming government looks to be the most right-wing in Israel's history, forcing Netanyahu into a diplomatic balancing act between his coalition and Western allies.
